Installation of Doors
Door installation, replacement and repair
We fit, replace and repair doors as part of renovation work – a house or apartment renovation, a new kitchen or bathroom, an extension or a new build. Doors are one of the trades we cover inside a project, alongside floors, partition walls, plastering and finishing.
Doors come to us with the project rather than as a separate visit, and that is also when the work is at its best. The opening is accessible while the room is open, the finishing follows straight on, and every door in the house is done in one run instead of one at a time.
When doors come into a renovation
Doors are rarely the reason a project starts, but they come up in almost every one:
- a room is renovated and the old door no longer matches what has been done around it;
- a wall has moved or an opening has changed, so the existing door no longer fits;
- the frame is damaged or rotten at the foot, and the wall is open anyway while the finishing is being done;
- a kitchen or bathroom is replaced and the door has to suit the new layout, the new floor level or the new ventilation;
- an extension or a loft conversion needs new doors throughout;
- a front or back door that no longer seals, replaced while the hallway or the facade is being worked on.
Older Dutch houses rarely have a perfectly square opening, and a standard door will not simply drop into one. The fitting work decides how the finished door looks and works: measuring the opening, judging whether the existing frame can be kept, and adjusting rather than forcing.
Doors we work with
Interior doors, both opdek and stomp; front and back doors; doors supplied with a new frame where the old one cannot be saved; glazed and sliding interior doors. All of it inside a renovation or construction project, and all of it finished to the same standard as the rest of the work.
What we offer
We are a renovation contractor, so we look at the opening and the wall around it rather than only at the door leaf, and we finish the work – architrave, skirting, paint edge – because that finishing belongs to the project anyway.

Door installation prices
Doors are quoted with the project. The figures below are indicative rates for the labour – fitting or replacing the door. The door itself, the frame and the hardware are quoted separately, because that is where prices differ most: an interior door can cost €80 or €800 depending on what you choose.

For reference, so you can judge any quotation you receive: in the Netherlands an interior door including the door itself and fitting usually starts at around €450, while a new front door with its frame is a different order of cost again – from roughly €1,000, depending on material and insulation. A figure well below that normally covers only part of the job, so it is worth checking what a quotation includes.
What moves the price
- the condition of the existing frame – whether it can be kept, adjusted, or has to be replaced;
- how many doors the project contains – the rate per door falls as the number rises;
- non-standard sizes, glazing, or doors made to measure;
- locks, hinges and security hardware;
- changes to the opening itself: widening, raising, or partly closing it;
- finishing after installation – architrave, plaster edge, paintwork.
How the work runs
- The doors are surveyed with the rest of the project, on the same site visit.
- We measure every opening. Doors are ordered to the opening, not the opening adjusted to the door.
- We tell you which frames can stay and which have to go, and what that changes in the quotation.
- Doors are scheduled into the project at the right point – after the wet trades and the floor, before the final decoration.
- Each door is hung and aligned, and the hardware fitted and adjusted.
- We check that every door closes and latches cleanly through its full swing, then finish the edges.
Inside a project the doors are usually a day or two of the schedule. A door that needs a new frame, or an opening that has to be altered, takes longer, and we say which of the two your project is at the quotation stage.

Do you fit doors as a separate job?

How long does it take to fit a door?
A standard interior door in a sound frame is one to two hours of work, so the doors of a whole house are usually a day or two of the project schedule. A door that needs a new frame, or an opening that has to be altered, takes longer.
Can an old door be replaced without changing the frame?
Often, yes – provided the frame is straight, solid and the right type for the new door. We check that during the survey, because keeping a good frame is the single largest saving on door work.
What does door installation cost in the Netherlands?
Inside a project the labour starts at around €120 per interior door in an existing frame and around €250 for a front or back door; a replacement that also needs frame work starts at around €300. Including the door itself, an interior door usually starts at around €450. Exact figures follow an on-site survey.
Do you repair doors as well as replace them?
Yes. Sticking doors, sagging hinges, damaged frames and worn hardware can usually be repaired rather than replaced, and we will say so when repair is the sensible option.
